Lauren Sonder is a composer and performer living and working in Oklahoma. Her muted, felt piano sound draws on a mix of pop and classical aesthetics and explores ideas of softness, openness, intimacy, and trust. With her current project, Felt Piano Dreams, she hopes to encourage conversations about access and rest in a musical setting.
Lauren enjoys collaboration and has worked with visual artists, dancers, choreographers, and flow artist Sarah Abear. In 2024, she was awarded a Creative Project grant by the Norman Arts Council to write and record new music inspired by flow arts, in collaboration with Sarah Abear. She participated in the FlussLab artist-in-residence program in Germany in the summer of 2025 and is excited to be a 2025-2026 Creative Exchange Fund recipient.
Lauren has performed at the University of Oklahoma, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Opolis, Magic Sad, and other local venues, as well as BARDO Projektraum in Berlin and Projektraum Coswig in Coswig Anhalt, Germany. Her compositions have been performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, the Summer Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and the Oklahoma Composers Salon Concert series.
Lauren has a Bachelor’s Degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree in music from the University of Oklahoma. She works as a teaching artist in her home piano studio.
