Lauren Sonder is a composer and performer living and working in Oklahoma. Her muted, felt piano sound draws on a mix of pop and classical aesthetics and explores ideas of softness, openness, intimacy, and trust. She enjoys collaboration and has worked with visual artists, dancers, choreographers, and flow artist Sarah Abear. In 2024, she was awarded a Creative Project grant by the Norman Arts Council to write and record new music inspired by flow arts, in collaboration with Sarah Abear.

Lauren has performed at the University of Oklahoma, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Opolis, and other local venues. She strives to create an intimate atmosphere at her performances—at her recent Felt Piano Dreams show at Magic Sad Studio, the audience was invited to lay down and bring comfort items such as pillows and blankets.

Lauren has a Bachelor’s Degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree in music from the University of Oklahoma. She works as a teaching artist in her home piano studio. Her compositions have been performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, the Summer Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and the Oklahoma Composers Salon Concert series.
