Lauren Sonder is a composer and performer based in Oklahoma (US). Her intimate, felt piano sound draws on a mix of pop and classical aesthetics and explores ideas of softness, openness, and trust. Her newest project, After Rest, invites the audience to slow down, rest, and dream.
Lauren enjoys collaboration and has worked with visual artists, dancers, choreographers, and flow artist Sarah Abear. In 2024, she was awarded a Creative Project grant by the Norman Arts Council to write and record new music inspired by flow arts, in collaboration with Sarah Abear. She participated in the FlussLab artist-in-residence program in Germany in the summer of 2025 and is excited to be a 2025-2026 CACHE Creative Exchange Fund recipient. Her 2025 EP ‘Missing’ has been called “one of the most quietly affecting and deeply felt Oklahoman releases of the year.” (Brett Fieldcamp, Oklahoma City Free Press).
Lauren has performed at the University of Oklahoma, Factory Obscura, The Medium, Moonbeam Conservatory, Opolis, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, and other regional venues, as well as internationally in Coswig Anhalt and Berlin, Germany. Her compositions have been performed at the Oklahoma Contemporary Dance Festival, the Summer Burklyn Ballet Theatre, and the Oklahoma Composers Salon Concert series.
Lauren has a Bachelor’s Degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Master’s Degree in music from the University of Oklahoma. In addition to composing and performing, she has an active teaching schedule.
